My Mantra these days

When I am stressed because something is boiling within me, I try to use the following quotes as my mantra to overcome whatever it is that's bothering me. 1. Everyone needs to be loved... especially when they do not deserve it. 2. Do what you can, for who you can, with what you have, and from where you are. Sometimes it works, sometimes not :-)

Tell me something I don't know about the current U.S. elections

Look out, here's another SMS Scam

This morning I received a message from my cellphone saying: "Congrat's ur Sim# Won! 1st prize (1M) + Brandnew unit N95 celfon Electronic draw from NOKIA CORP. DTI-NCR Permit # 2424 Subject 2claim Call Now! Mngr Ace Javier ds#" From where I was seating, I knew immediately that this was a scam. In the first place, I have not joined any contest sponsored by Nokia. So how on earth will I win something from them? DUH! I thought these things belonged to the past. Ancient history. But no! Oh no, no! Scammers are still on the prowl waiting for the next victim. Watch out for these leeches and similar modus operandi. If you want to know about Sales Promo Permits and to verify check out this link . Want to read scam stories to avoid being victimized, check this site . And for consumer related issues and questions, visit the DTI website.

Game of the Generals

Image
Once again PNP generals are under seige. Philippine Senator Meriam Defensor Santiago along with other Senators, decided to conduct an investigation about the fact that more than one hundred thousand Euros were caught in the possession of PNP Comptroller Eliseo De la Paz, in Moscow, less than a month close to his retiring date. General de la Paz, says he did not violate any law. Awwch. For his sake, De la Paz must adm it the truth. And he should have been there too. Or perhaps, as in many other times, he will just serve as another fall guy? Tsk! Tsk! I listened to the hearing as it was being conducted and once again, the PNP top brass had only a thing or two to say: "I heard about it", and "we will find that out in our own investigation". It is quite appaling to listen to these generals saying practically nothing. What are they hiding? The hearing indicated that, among other things: - DILG did not approve the release of about PhP 9M to be used as conti

Cities worth visiting in the Philippines

First things first. To fulfill pinay mommy online contest's rules, I am supposed to post the answers to the following questions: What is the Philippines' City of Smiles: Answer: Bacolod City What is the Philippines' City of Golden Friendship Answer: Cagayan de Oro City I am sure that by this time pinay mommy online is already in Bacolod taking her much deserved break. Awww! What about me? When am I going to have mine :-) Before I publish this post, allow me to say something about these two wonderful cities found in the Southern part of the Philippines. First - Bacolod is the capital city of Negros Occidental. It is quite famous for its MassKara Festival. Touted to be be the best place to live in, Bacolod is tops as far as infrastructure is concerned. It is a BPO hub and boasts of language schools catering mostly to foreigners. Although I have never been to Bacolod two of my very best friends come from Bacolod City. Back when we used to work together, they have b

Living with the question: Is it all about money?

A poem.. Basta at may pera sila inaalala. Walang ipon. Mangungutang pa sila? Ah sa SSS may 20,000 yata dun. Arkila na lang ng ataol. Pa-cremate para di pa magastos. Bahala na siguro sila. Patay ka na. Di ka na dapat mag problema.

Are there still things we don't know about the economy and the U.S. elections?

When Your Son Tells You He Wants to Get Married

I was jolted when my son, Lloyd, and today's birthday boy, recently told me during a visit, that he might just end up married soon. Whoa! But I thought he didn't have anyone? You're joking right? I asked. He said that he wouldn't want to wait till he is 30 to marry. Seemed serious. Or, perhaps, that girl in a Palawan trip photo is it? But, he wasn't confirming or denying anything :-( I love you Lloyd! Happy Birthday!

You Can Definitely Spot a Liar Maybe you have good instincts. Or maybe you just have a lot of experience with liars. Either way, it's pretty hard for someone to pull a fast one on you. You're like a human lie detector. Can You Spot a Liar?

A Roof Above My Head?

I could rant the whole day about the roofing in this place we now call home. In a previous post I spoke briefly about being upset and disappointed the whole family is at how the roofing system here seem to have failed our normal and ordinary expectations. First, it doesn't drain water as it should. Imagine watching, on a given rainy day, the rain freely draining down the walls of the dirty kitchen. Apparently, there is no effective structural provision that prevents rainwater from pooling and seeping through the down spouts. We have to clean the kitchen always after rain. More importantly this condition has already damaged half of the dirty kitchen roof, with molds all over and maybe affecting the wiring of the kitchen lighting as I am writing this down From the little that I know, there is always an up and down and round of eaves, valleys, gutters, waterspouts, waterheads and drainpipes installed systematically to remove roof water more effectively and efficiently.

Economic Meltdown

The U.S.$700 billion dollar bailou t package has finally been approved. Amidst the near collapse or 'suspended animation' status of the American economy , a ripple effect is in the offing. And it is going to hit hard where it will hurt a lot. What happens now to those with U.S. mother companies? Take the case of AIG-Philamlife. I know so many friends who have staked their hard earned money both in insurance packages and educational funds. They do have a cause to worry. Phil-am top brass recently announced that some of its major assets locally are going to be sold to cover their $80 million dollar payables to its American parent company. There you go. I think no amount of Phil-am hand holding can minimize those sleepless nights among its plan holders. As the potential for a US recession looms, an economic fallout is not far fetched. No one is immune. Very few are or has received shots of the anti-meltdown vaccine. Common sense therefore, dictate that there will be m
