Economic Meltdown

The U.S.$700 billion dollar bailou t package has finally been approved. Amidst the near collapse or 'suspended animation' status of the American economy , a ripple effect is in the offing. And it is going to hit hard where it will hurt a lot. What happens now to those with U.S. mother companies? Take the case of AIG-Philamlife. I know so many friends who have staked their hard earned money both in insurance packages and educational funds. They do have a cause to worry. Phil-am top brass recently announced that some of its major assets locally are going to be sold to cover their $80 million dollar payables to its American parent company. There you go. I think no amount of Phil-am hand holding can minimize those sleepless nights among its plan holders. As the potential for a US recession looms, an economic fallout is not far fetched. No one is immune. Very few are or has received shots of the anti-meltdown vaccine. Common sense therefore, dictate that there will be m

Happy Father's Day Pa

Image
I was thinking of preparing a post about Father's Day not in honor of my father because I have already done that in my IBANAG Family blog. I thought perhaps I will do some research on father related humor. To that end I saw this website which essentially talks about fathers, what else. I found some of what's been written as amusing and I quote some of it below: "To be successful father, there's one absolute rule: when you have a kid, don't look at it for the first two years. - Ernest Hemingway. The thing to remember about fathers is ... they're men. A girl has to keep it in mind: They are dragon seekers, bent on improbable rescues. Scratch any father, you find someone chock-full of qualms and romantic terrors, believing change is a threat, like your first shoes with heels on, like your first bicycle.. - Phyllis McGinley. If the relationship of father to son could really be reduced to biology, the whole earth would blaze with the glory of fathers and sons. -J

Whether you are a believer or not, Happy Valentines just the same! <<<<< style="color: rgb(102, 0, 0);"> And BTW, let me just say this... I will always remember Valentines with images of wine, roses, chocolates, braided hair, blue and white organza dress - - - happiness, and at the same time thoughts of fear and loneliness. Sigh :-( Even in remembrance there's still these mixed feelings of emotions. But hey, Cheers everyone!

A friend's Request

Image
This is more like it. The pic I mean. This is a very old picture of my friend's Mom. Her name - Inocencia B. Ragual. Since five years ago, I believe she has been into this already. That is desperately looking for a way to find her mom at least. She showed me tattered and age-worn "adoption documents" which states the name of the couple who were supposed to be her parents. They come from Pangasinan , a town north of Manila . That's supposed to be 300 or so kilometers from Marikina where my friend and I both live with our families. You see, my friend and I were classmates in high school. But back then she never talked about being adopted. There were just whispers from people who knew her. It never really bothered us. I for one didn't care. She is a friend, period. I thought perhaps, intimate things such as those were best left unspoken. But today mother and all, in her golden years as well, she is at that stage of her life where the past is suddenly crucial to her

Look out there's the Shark

Know when to say goodbye: According to Woody Allen, a relationship is like a shark: "It has to constantly move forward or it dies." If you sense a dead shark on your hands, cut your losses and say your goodbye. Far too many men make the mistake of prolonging a bad relationship simply because they don't want to hurt their partner's feelings. However noble the sentiment, that only allows angst and resentment to build."
